The Sketchbook project

The Brooklyn Art Library in New York has the world’s largest collection of artists’ and designers’ sketchbooks. Also one of my sketchbooks can be found from the collection!

When nowadays a big part of the design process is done on the computer, I think the hands-on sketching with different types of materials brings needed balance to the creative work. It feels good to find the creative flow without any specific goal – other than filling a sketchbook. It gives space for ideas to spark new ideas.

The Sketchbook project has different themes for different editions, and from the inspirational prompts of the vol 16, I liked the theme called “One more story”. It reminds me of my childhood - me and my younger brother, we loved bedtime stories and always wanted to hear one more. Now one aspect of my work is visual storytelling, creating moods with colors and surfaces.
