Chrysanthemums

One might easily think that a more complex flower would be harder to illustrate than a simple leaf, but with these chrysanthemums, it was actually the opposite!

The leaves are very dark green and quite close together in the vase, casting shadows on each other. In the first sketches all leaves appear ”too flat.” I had to add extra highlights to create more color variation and depth in the green areas.

With the flowers, the amount of tones naturally created more layers and depth.
