Bengtskär lighthouse

I got to visit the Bengstkär lighthouse during the summer. The beginning of the trip didn't go as planned: First, it seemed like we might not even be able to visit the island, as the storm wind was too strong. Luckily, a bit later, the winds set enough for the boat travel!

Bengtskär is a lighthouse located in the Turku archipelago. The small island is the most southern travel destination of Finland. The family living there greeted us on arrival and introduced us to the lighthouse's history. They also gave us tips to keep a distance from the eider birds and waved goodbye on the dock when it was time to travel home.

We heard that the time record of going all the way up to the 52-meter lighthouse tower is less than a minute – for us those 252 steps and a couple of ladders took quite more than that, but we made it up (and back down).
