Frequently asked questions

  • A pattern is a continuous surface, for example, a repeating print on fabric. Typically, a pattern is made to repeat in both horizontal and vertical directions. Illustration on the other hand is not in a repeating form, but an individual element or composition of elements.

It may be possible to make a pattern out of an existing illustration. This depends on the complexity of the illustration and of the production technique. If you’ve seen an illustration by me and are interested in the option of using that as a pattern, don’t hesitate to send me a message, let’s check what can be done!

Generally, any elements used in a pattern can be used as an illustration.

  • You can place an order by sending me a message through the contact form or via email at ammi@ihanammin.fi. Please let me know if there are technical specs for the project, theme and style wishes, and an idea of the schedule already existing.

The price of a custom-made design depends on the case specs and therefore I will always make a project-based offer.

  • I have an international sales agent, Patternsfrom Agency, and they have a pattern bank of print-ready designs made by me. The patterns are print-ready on the means of use with traditional printing techniques or digital printing. It is possible to adjust the scale and colors based on your needs. These pattern bank designs are available on tighter schedules too.

Also, I am constantly working on new designs, so there might be something on my table just waiting for the finishing touches. Even with busy schedules, it is good to always send me a message and check what can be done!

  • Most of my patterns are finished with a computer and made as vector designs with reduced color amounts and on a scale that fits traditional printing techniques. In short, this means that the colors can be easily changed, the scale adjusted and the patterns can be used for many different kinds of purposes! I also create custom-made patterns targeted for digital printing where it is possible to include photographs in the designs.

The longer explanation: The patterns have a limited number of colors (mainly from 1 to 8) that can be changed according to the customer’s wishes. The colors can be adjusted based on color codes provided by the customer (Pantone, CMYK, or RGB codes depending on the project) or I can create a color palette and mood board based on the customer’s wishes, target market, wanted style, and trends.

The vector graphics allows patterns to be scaled without decreasing quality. Even when the size is significantly increased, the pattern does not become blurry. All the elements are separate from each other, which makes modifications such as removing or adding individual elements easy.

I love creating custom-made patterns and illustrations. With custom-made designs, it is possible to take into account the production technique, needed scale, colors, and other wishes or limitations right from the beginning.

  • A license for a pattern or illustration means the right to use it. The license agreement states how the designs can be used, for example: On which market area(s), for what time period, and for what type of products. The benefit of licensing is that the customer pays only for the license type they need.
